Greta Van Fleet Unveil ‘Meeting The Master’ Video
Grammy-winning rock band Greta Van Fleet have unveiled the new video for their critically acclaimed track ‘Meeting The Master’, directed by the band alongside Gus Black.
“Meeting The Master” is from the band’s forthcoming third studio album Starcatcher, out July 21 on Lava/Republic/ EMI Records.
About the single, the band states, “‘Meeting The Master’ peers into an esoteric world heeded by the word of a wise teacher. Sung in the voice of a devout believer, and eventual group exclamation, the song details the love these fervent followers have for their teacher and their firm belief in his vision. It’s an exotic spiritual journey. A dark comedy that inevitably ends in chaos.”
The video for “Meeting The Master” is epic, artistic, and ambitious in ways few modern bands have the guts to attempt. Greta Van Fleet digs down into the esoterica of classic rock and gives fans a mythic experience. Channeling mysticism in a genuine way, lead vocalist Josh Kizska is the conduit of this tale of devotion and his high, clear tones add much unspoken meaning. Guitar man Jake Kizska masterfully uses acoustic and electric textures to frame and support his brother’s voice. Watch this with an open heart and let its magic happen.

Of collaborating with the band to direct the video, Black shares, “The final shot of the video is as close to magic as anything I’ve ever been a part of creating. It was an absolute pleasure collaborating with these fine humans.”
Josh adds, “Beauty cloaked in darkness is still beauty. I love you Gus Black.”
In celebration of the new music, the band is set to kick off their Starcatcher World Tour on July 24 in Nashville at the Bridgestone Arena. The tour includes stops at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York and The Forum in Los Angeles as well as London’s OVO Arena Wembley and more; see below for a complete list of dates. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased HERE. The Starcatcher World Tour includes support from special guests Kaleo, Surf Curse, Mt. Joy and Black Honey.
Starcatcher is written and recorded by the band—lead singer Josh Kizska, guitarist Jake Kizska, bassist/keyboardist Sam Kizska and drummer Danny Wagner—alongside Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile). Recorded at the legendary RCA Studios in Nashville, the band utilized the large recording room to capture the pure energy of their world-renowned live performances.
“We didn’t really have to force or be intense about writing, because everything that happened was very instinctual,” Jake says. “If anything, the record is our perspective, and sums up where we are as a group and individually as musicians.”
The band explores the duality of fantasy versus reality and the contrast between light and darkness. “We had this idea that we wanted to tell these stories to build a universe,” says Wagner. “We wanted to introduce characters and motifs and these ideas that would come about here and there throughout our careers through this world.”
The band took multiple concepts from critically acclaimed second album The Battle at Garden’s Gate and brought them into Starcatcher. Sam’s take on the new record’s big ideas hint at new beginnings. “When I imagine the world of Starcatcher, I think of the cosmos,” he says. “It makes me ask a lot of questions, like ‘Where did we come from?’ or ‘What are we doing here?’ But it’s also questions like, ‘What is this consciousness that we have, and where did it come from?’”
The band are best known for their renowned live performances, selling over one million tickets worldwide. They sold out their entire 2022 arena tour, holding a special energy between them and their devoted fans. With Starcatcher the band aims to capture that energy in the recording studio.
Starcatcher follows their album The Battle at Garden’s Gate, released in 2021 to extensive chart and critical success. In the US, the album debuted at #1 Billboard Rock Album, #1 Billboard Hard Rock Album, #1 Billboard Vinyl Album, #2 Billboard Top Album Sales and in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. It was a Top 10 album in the UK and a major hit around the world.

Absolutely beautiful! I love the vocals and the music! Would love to see this band live!!!
Beautiful visceral song full of soul ❤️
the song is so musically right, althought it feels purely manufactured in a lab, it seems musically accurate but not artistic or genuine, the lyrics seem like its trying to correspond to the sounds and melodies intended, the song seems empty of an artist intention, i can’t follow where the singer wanted to go and where he is coming from. the song seems to be a patchwork of studied sounds, it was seeking aesthetics, and it succeeded perfectly in that, the song is an absolute delight to the ears :)
Simply beautiful, the melody and lyrics bring you on a journey that touches the soul. Haunting and lingering.
