Jeremiah Johnson has truly come into his own with his new release HI-FI DRIVE BY. A career-defining LP, the album combines Johnson’s master guitar work, songwriting skills and uniquely powerful vocals into ten tracks of pure brilliance. Each song is carefully crafted with multiple layers of top-tier musicianship to reveal a world class release.
“Ball and Chain” is a glorious blend of roots rock know-how and a melodic sense that hits like a Southern Steely Dan. Johnson has a tune here powerful enough for a juke joint but slick enough to be a big crossover hit. The track’s guitar/piano/horn blend gives it a full sound and upscale feel that should slice right through the current roots music scene and arrive at its top in short order. Jeremiah Johnson wanted to go back to the blues and rock n roll basics, reaching out to a St. Louis legend, Tom Maloney (Co-Producer), for inspiration. In addition, Johnson tapped into the wide range of musical talents of Paul Niehaus IV (Producer). The trio began assembling some of the best horn players, backing vocalists, and percussionists in St. Louis to create the excellent thick layers of musicianship tastefully captured on HI-FI DRIVE BY.
This is the first release Johnson has worked with co-writers (Maloney and Niehaus IV); and the results are nothing short of brilliant. HI-FI DRIVE BY is the “Coming of Age” release of Johnson’s career.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Jeremiah Johnson blends the sounds of the south, with Mississippi River blues and a touch of country flair. Emotionally charged and powered by the common man’s passion for life and all the struggles in-between, Johnson is known for writing songs with meaning, a powerfully persuasive voice and master-class musicianship. Johnson has released three chart toping releases including Straitjacket (2018), Heavens to Betsy (2020), and Unemployed Highly Annoyed (2020). Along with Grind (2015) and Blues Heart Attack (2016) all five albums have been in the top eight of the Billboard Blues Album charts.
Johnson is a 2022 Blues Music Award nominee for best blue/rock album Unemployed Highly Annoyed. Over the last four years, Johnson has toured the US and performed nearly two hundred European shows, opening for Mike Zito and as a featured artist in the 2020 Ruf’s Blues Caravan. He was recently a featured artist on the Nov 2021 Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise.
