Blues Singer, Ms. Trudy Lynn

We are pleased to premiere Trudy Lynn’s new video, “Golden Girl Blues” from her new album Golden Girl out March 18, 2022 on Nola Blue Records.

The words “powerhouse,” “charismatic,” “Diva” and “Dynamo” are often bandied about when describing talented female vocalists and performers, but few are more deserving of such accolades as thirteen-time Blues Music Award nominee, Trudy Lynn. She has received the Living Legend Blues Award from the Houston Blues Society and the Willie Mitchell Lifetime Artist Award from the Jus’ Blues Music Foundation. Lynn is nominated for “Soul Blues Female” in the 43rd Blues Music Awards.

On the eve of her 75th birthday and 57th year in show business, Lynn is set to release her 18th full length album Golden Girl. Living legend Trudy Lynn’s new album is eleven tracks of R&B, soul-blues, and torch songs that find this powerhouse full of fire and sass that first earned her attention and acclaim on the Houston music scene. Lynn has more cause to celebrate as she recently signed with Nola Blue Records.

“It’s all about the beauty of being a Golden Girl ~ lots of class, sass and pizzaz to last. A gift from God and I’m enjoying every moment of it.” ~Trudy Lynn, “The Golden Girl”

“Golden Girl Blues” is a lighthearted and slightly campy number that humorously details many of the pitfalls a person might face when they get north of their seventh decade. Lost glasses, missing teeth, and general forgetfulness all figure into Trudy’s lyrics and she delivers them in true diva style. All of this goes down over a sweet mid-tempo shuffle that’s smooth and sassy. The song’s music video adds another layer of fun to this entertaining track and it’s obvious that Trudy and her band had a great time making it. “Golden Girl Blues” is a clear winner from a singular vocalist and performer who isn’t even close to slowing down.

For the album Golden Girl, Lynn teamed up with Grammy nominated producer, songwriter and original Rhythm Tramp, Terry Wilson for record sessions in Houston and Los Angeles. They recruited a set of A-list musicians to flesh out arrangements, including guitarists Anson Funderburgh and Yates McKendree, drummer Brannen Temple and the lauded Kevin McKendree on keys. On horns are Darrel Leonard and Mario Calire with Wilson holding down the bassline. Special guest Teresa James adds her Texas vocal flair to the album and Steve Krase drops in his signature blues harmonica.

Born in the Fifth Ward, Houston, TX, Trudy Lynn’s professional singing career began in the mid 1960s when she sang with Albert Collins and later Clarence Green. In 1973, Sinett Records issued her debut 45 pairing “Long Live the Blues” and soul ballad “What A Waste,” produced by the late Oscar Perry.  Her next entre into the studio was with producer Huey P. Meaux, the now-infamous Crazy Cajun. By 1989, Lynn’s Ichiban Records debut album Trudy Sings the Blues was released. Come to Mama (1990), The Woman in Me (1991), I’ll Run Your Hurt Away (1993), and 24 Hour Woman (Trudy co-produced the 1994 set) came close behind. Lynn developed into one of Ichiban’s flagship artists, and emerged as one of the country’s leading blues chanteuses. Overseas performance opportunities soon followed, and haven’t stopped since.

Lynn’s acclaimed Royal Oaks Blues Café (2013) reached #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart.  Everything Comes with a Price (2015), I’ll Sing the Blues For You (2016) and Blues Keep Knockin’(2018) followed, all recorded at Houston’s famous Red Shack Recording Studio and co-produced by Krase and Rock Romano.
