Nether Hour Delivers New Single ‘Sex Ed’

Austin’s soulful, jam-infused American rock band Nether Hour turned up the heat with their new single, “Sex Ed” out today via Nether Family Records. The groove-heavy track marks the third tantalizing preview of their forthcoming eight-track album Moonshine, slated for release on Friday, March 14.

This song has been around since 2018 when I played it with our group Donny Jewelz, featuring Maurice Thomas, our late drummer Judson Greene, and JaRon Marshall of Black Pumas,” shares band member Bishop. “Back then, gigs didn’t pay much, so Bob, Bercy, and Jud started playing as a trio, and I’d join in on guitar or bass when I could. I first fell in love with it playing bass with Bob and Jud at Drafting Room on Rainey. The song has evolved over the years, but its core remains the same. We recorded at Orb Studio with Oliver Ocean and finished it at 601 Studio in South Austin. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it!”

Nether Hour has been making serious noise, turning every dive bar and backroad juke joint into a full-blown musical revival. This trio of unapologetic rebels packs a punch, each member a powerhouse of raw, sonic defiance. Bobby delivers gritty vocals and razor-sharp guitar riffs, while Bishop unleashes searing lead guitar and mandolin work, with Bercy laying down bass lines that slam right into your gut. With a cosmic twist of fate involving JaRon Marshall of the Black Pumas and 2018’s SXSW, Bobby, Bishop and Bercy, have been carving out a niche in Austin’s music scene, including a stint as the Kill Tony after-party band for over a year.

Nether Hour dropped the album’s lead single, “Long As I Ain’t Alone” on November 1, followed by “Look My Way” on December 13 which premiered exclusively with American Songwriter. The songs on Moonshine showcase the band’s signature fusion of Louisiana’s swampy grooves with Texas-sized servings of funk, blues, soul, and rock ’n’ roll.

As Nether Hour rolls out new music, they’re hitting the road for their 2025 “Moonshine” Tour. Nether Hour is gaining well-deserved recognition beyond Austin, taking their tenacious sound across state lines, breaking into new territories like Colorado and the Southeast, and making waves on the fraternity circuit. More dates to be announced.
