10 Best New Blues Rock Songs Fall 2024
By Martine Ehrenclou
As we head into the holidays (where did the time go?), we all need a batch of new blues rock tunes to beef up our holiday listening. Whether you’re traveling to celebrate or staying home with a fire, these are a few of my favorites from 2024.
For most, it’s not easy to keep up with all the new music that’s released. And aren’t we lucky to have such top tier music to listen to. It amazes me when I talk to people who don’t know who some of these bands are. I want to ask, “Where have you been?” Life takes over and music isn’t a priority for everyone. But it certainly is for me. And if you’re reading this, it is for you too. We couldn’t live without it, right?
In the comments below, please write something about how music fits into your life.
Because many of us need a sonic balm for our brain and spirit right now, I put together some of the best from the last few months. If you think I missed some, let me know in the comments below.
These are hand-picked modern blues rock and roots songs from the music we’ve received or scouted out. Great for a night on the town, or just kicking back in your living room alone or with friends. Each one listed has information on the band or artist, plus song/video and link to their website. That makes it easy for you if you want to explore further.
Robert Jon & The Wreck
A favorite among music fans, this Southern rock and rock & roll band is taking flight. And we couldn’t be happier for them. “Boss Man” is from their new album ‘Red Moon Rising’ produced by the legendary Kevin Shirely. About the song guitarist for the band Henry James says “‘Boss Man’ is an anthem calling for unity and awareness amongst all people.”

Steve Hill
Multi Award-winning blues rocker Steve Hill recently rereleased the album ‘Hanging On A String.” Because the title track is so good, it’s the pick for this one-man band. Canadian blues rocking guitarist, singer, and songwriter Hill is a site to behold when he’s playing all the instruments at once. Check out “Hanging On A String” and see what you think. He’s a fiercely talented musician.

Beth Hart
We have a softer Beth Hart here with “Wonderful World” from her new album ‘You Still Got Me’ featuring Slash and Eric Gales. The Grammy nominated powerhouse vocalist, songwriter, pianist understands exactly how to insert all her deep emotional power into her singing and we’re all the better for it. If you haven’t seen her live, I highly recommend it. That’s what turned the corner for me with Beth Hart. See my concert review here.

Davy Knowles
Davy Knowles is back to his blues rock! And his new effort ‘Invisible Man’ is knockout good. Think of his band Back Door Slam combined with the gusto of his release ‘Three Miles From Avalon’ and you’ll get the idea. Or listen to the title track and see if you don’t love it like I do.

Zac Schulze Band
You won’t regret listening to this. This band is great. Known for their old-school blend of 70s classic blues rock and modern alternative influences, the UK-based blues rock trio explodes with this guitar-driven track. “Woman” channels the raw ferocity of guitar legend Rory Gallagher and pub rock favorite Dr Feelgood, combining raucous guitar solos, catchy vocals, pounding drums, and a funky bass groove

Slash (Blues )
If you haven’t heard legendary guitarist Slash play the blues, you’re in for a treat. World renowned as an aggressive, hard rocking player and long-running guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, Slash also formed Slash’s Snakepit and co-founded supergroup Velvet Revolver. With his new solo album Orgy of the Damned, the Grammy winner has returned to his roots. Orgy of the Damned features celebrated guests including Chris Stapleton, Brian Johnson of AC/DC, Steven Tyler, Beth Hart, Iggy Pop, Paul Rodgers, Gary Clark Jr., Billy F Gibbons, Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes, Demi Lovato, and more. On “Killing Floor” Slash makes a brilliant choice in asking Johnson to sing in his lower register.

Tab Benoit
At long last Louisiana bluesman Tab Benoit released a new album, ‘I Hear Thunder’ and it rocks too. Four-time Grammy nominee and two-time BB King Entertainer of the Year Award-winner, Benoit teamed with Anders Osborne on this one and it’s just one hit song after the other. If you want to know why Benoit hasn’t released an album in 13 years, you can read my interview with him here

Joe Bonamassa
No list would be complete without a Joe Bonamassa tune. Especially one from his outstanding album ‘Live At The Hollywood Bowl.’ Seriously, I think this album is a stunning effort, complete with full orchestra. “Twenty-Four Hour Blues” is a thrilling track, and it’s certainly going to distract from any holiday political arguments if you need it to. If you’re looking for Christmas gifts, this album is a winner.

Eric Bibb
Three-time Grammy nominee returns with yet another message of hope amidst a world of chaos. ‘In The Real World’ brings a sharp dose of reality to the listener, conveyed with a silky voice and beautiful acoustic guitar, alongside some of the best musicians around. The blues and roots Troubadour offers peace and wisdom through beautiful acoustic music.

Marcus King
Get ready for something special–Grammy nominated Marcus King’s ‘An Intimate Evening Featuring Drew Smithers.’ You thought Marcus King was good, maybe great, but stripped back like this, you hear the raw talent in his songwriting, his smoky vocals, his acoustic guitar, along with the equally skilled Drew Smithers. Either of these two songs featured would be my choice and they both from past albums.

Jovin Webb
On this gritty blues rock number, Jovin Webb strikes it hot with one helluva blues rock song “I’m a Drifter” produced by Grammy winner Tom Hambridge. The catchy bass line kicks off the guitar-driven song as Webb’s gravely vocal leads us into the life of a drifter, always running, up at night, “heading to places I don’t belong.” Great groove.
