Hannah Wicklund Releases ‘Mama Said’ Live At The Troubadour
Widely acclaimed singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and artistic visionary Hannah Wicklund has released her new single ‘Mama Said’ taken from her forthcoming album Live At The Troubadour via Strawberry Moon Records.
Live At The Troubadour was recorded at her March 2024 performance at the legendary Troubadour in Los Angeles as part of her Hell In The Hallway world tour. The album captures the entire concert performed with her full band featuring her hits and fan favorites from across her two hugely praised albums Hannah Wicklund and the Steppin Stones (2018) and The Prize (2024).
The new single ‘Mama Said’ showcases some of Hannah’s earliest work, written during her teenage years and originally featuring on the Hannah Wicklund and the Steppin Stones album. The live version however is an enhanced display of her astounding musicianship. Coming in at over double the time of the original single, the pensive blues song is expanded with a huge solo incorporating Hannah’s enthralling unique use of the talk box alongside her deft guitar playing, all captured among a captivating jam with her band.

Regarding the single Hannah says, “The pain of being a young girl trying to feel loved at the hands of man twice her age is where ‘Mama Said’ was born; a song I wrote at 17 years old. The confusion and sorrow of that situation created the exact landscape I needed as a teenager to start exploring the slower, more tasteful side of truly emotive guitar playing.
When I’ve played this song live it’s featured an extended jam and talk box solo since day one, and over the last decade it’s become an anchor in any show I play. The level of expression you can reach by adding the talk box to your guitar playing is fascinating to me, especially layered then by delay, recreating the echoes that ruminate in your mind when you’re young and figuring the world out.”
Following the Hell In The Hallway world tour which saw Hannah perform sold out shows throughout North America, the UK and Europe, Hannah has continued to carve an impressive live path in 2024 and played to capacity arenas across North America in support of Deep Purple.
Ahead of her latest album The Prize, Hannah toured arenas across the UK and Europe with Greta Van Fleet. The Prize is produced by and features Sam Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet on bass, keys and organ, and accompanied by Daniel Wagner of Greta Van Fleet on drums, The Prize was released to widespread critical acclaim at the start of 2024.
The Live At The Troubadour album sees Hannah coming full circle while also celebrating the anniversary of The Prize encapsulating the growth and unstoppable talent of this important face in modern rock music.
