Black Stone Cherry Announces New Version of “Out Of Pocket”
Black Stone Cherry and Mascot Records have announced the release of a new version of the band’s global hit “Out Of Pocket.” The recording features Jesse Leach from Killswitch Engage. The band shares, “We have been fans of KSE since we can remember. Having Jesse be a part of one of our songs, bringing his intensity and passion, has truly made this a special moment in our sonic journey.”
Killswitch Engage’s Jesse Leach offers, “I’d always appreciated the Black Stone guys as good humans and songwriters. However, when I finally saw them live it all clicked for me! They are a great live band, and I am definitely a fan after seeing their show! Being asked to jump on this track was such an honor and a pleasure as well! It’s a damn good rock n roll song!”
The track has been released and impacts radio next week. The original recording has been streamed five million times, while cumulative plays “Screaming At The Sky’s” repertoire across all DSPs now exceeds 25 million total streams. Total streams for the songs on Human Condition now exceed 80 Million plays.
Early in 2023, the band revealed the song, kicking the door open in to a new year. They were about to stage an arena tour of the U.K. and Europe, and this song served as the follow-up to the juggernaut that was their prior studio album 2020’s The Human Condition. Emotionally rousing with a roof-raising battle cry chorus, it showcases the band at their anthemic best. It also served to mark the significant moment of bassist Steve Jewell’s first studio recording with the band. Prior, he spent a couple of years as the touring bassist joining lifelong friends Chris Robertson, vocals/guitar; Ben Wells, guitar/vocals; and John Fred Young, drums.
“Out Of Pocket (Feat. Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage)”
At the time of release, Chris Robertson shared, “’Out of Pocket’ is a song born out of that exact feeling. The song was what I personally, and I think a lot of us, felt over these very trying last couple of years. Facing your demons, knowing that you have to come out the other side stronger than before.”
The album, Screamin’ At The Sky, features all-new material written collaboratively while the band was on tour. When it came time to record, BSC tried something they’ve always dreamed of doing: tracking an album at The Plaza Theater in Glasgow, Kentucky – a legendary 1020-seat venue built in 1934 that boasts meticulous acoustics. In June of 2022, they rented the whole place, brought in all its recording equipment and trusty engineer, Jordan Westfall. They set up the basement as the control room and the stage as the live drum room.
Over the past two decades, the Kentucky Southern rockers have shaken stages from arenas to festivals across Europe, North America and other territories across the globe. The band just completed a tour in the U.S. with Clutch and Rivals Sons and now head overseas for performances from October 29 through November 15 with Ayron Jones. On November 17, Skillet will join the bill for appearances through November 23.
