Single Premiere: Randall Bramblett ‘Come On’

Rock & Blues Muse is pleased to premiere Grammy nominated songwriter Randall Bramblett’s new single “Come On” from his upcoming album Paradise Breakdown out September 27th via Strolling Bones Records. Hailed as “one of the South’s most lyrical and literate songwriters” by Rolling Stone, Bramblett is known as a highly accomplished singer and multi-instrumentalist as well. 13 solo albums later, it makes you wonder how he had time to write a song for Bonnie Raitt whose Grammy winning album Slipstream opens with his composition “Used To Rule The World.”

Bramblett first entered the scene as a skilled sideman, touring in the Gregg Allman Band, in Sea Level with Chuck Leavell, and spent 16 years in Steve Winwood’s band. His songs have been covered by Bonnie Raitt, Blind Boys of Alabama, Delbert McClinton, and he spent time as the horn leader for Widespread Panic. Blues legend Bettye LaVette recorded 11 different Bramblett compositions on her Grammy-nominated record LaVette!

In “Come On” by the modern roots music master Randall Bramblett, he shares some of his story-telling magic. The easy-going groove supports the punch of horns, as the lyrics reveal how everyone’s running from something. Bramblett’s gravelly voice is the perfect narrator for a tale about people who hide the truth from themselves. The musicans who join Bramblett create a masterful, yet understated musical unit.

Says Bramblett about his song “Come On”, “I saw an old man carrying a black garbage bag over his shoulder walking on Prince Avenue in Athens (GA) early one morning before the sun had come up. That image stuck with me and the song that came out of it was my imagining a kind of procession of the down and out, walking somewhere, nowhere. Also, the realization that we’re all walking together in this life.”

Bramblett plays keyboards, keyboards, saxophones, flute, guitar, mandolin, and harmonica, and blends rock, blues, jazz and soul into his music.

As an in-demand songwriter and musician, Randall Bramblett made time for his solo career once again with Paradise Breakdown, teaming up with legendary instrumentalists like Tom Bukovac, Steve Mackey, Nick Johnson and producer/drummer Gerry Hansen. He cooked up up his own melting pot of urban swamp-soul and modern roots music in the East Nashville studio. Once those sessions wrapped up, he headed back to his adopted hometown of Athens, Georgia — a four-hour drive from his birthplace of Jesup — to finish the record with familiar partners like Seth Hendershot, A.J. Adams, Tom Ryan and Nick Johnson. The result is a mix of organic performances and electronic textures– an album built for roadhouse dance floors, dark lonely corners, and the long ride from past to present.

Bramblett is one of the unsung heroes of modern-day American music, composing his own albums one minute and playing a supportive role in the careers of other high profile musicians the next—all of whom have cherry-picked Bramblett to be a member of their touring bands.

“Randall is in my opinion the most gifted & talented southern singer-songwriter musicians of the past several decades.” Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers)
