Rock & Blues Muse is pleased to premiere Serabee’s new video “Bayou Baby” from her upcoming album Hummingbird Tea, which is set to release October 14th via Rabadash Records. The album was produced by Serabee and John Autin (Marva Wright, Snooks Eaglin, Ernie K. Doe).

“Bayou Baby” is an ecstatic, joyful southern soul track with an upbeat vibe and many autobiographical moments. Serabee shines brightly at the vocal mic, giving the kind of performance that can only come from a true believer standing on holy ground. The band behind her is every bit her equal and together they have the power to make actual magic. The music video that accompanies the song is gorgeous, entertaining, and a whole lot of fun. “Bayou Baby” is destined to be added to your “get up and dance” playlist and remain there indefinitely.

After being signed to Dreamworks by Lenny Waronker and producer Gary Katz (Steely Dan), Serabee struck gold when she penned the number one hit “Crazy Chick” for platinum sensation Charlotte Church that took her around the world a few times. Now, the Mississippi-born Serabee returns to her roots after becoming disillusioned with the music industry to record what she calls “the front porch songs.”

Raised in churches, juke joints, and tent revivals in Louisiana and Mississippi by her preacher, guitar-playing father and folk songwriter mother, Serabee is a stunning vocalist, songwriter, keyboardist and a true hybrid of Louisiana and Mississippi musical styles with a little Dusty Springfield influence thrown in for good measure.

Serabee began performing in New Orleans and Mississippi clubs, where she developed a large following. A gifted songwriter, she has written and worked with Michael Bolton, Doug Morris (Universal), Craig Wiseman, Ben Margulies (Mariah Carey), Usher, Matt Serletic (Matchbox Twenty), Hugh Padgham (Sting, Kate Bush), and Stephanie Bentley (Faith Hill). One of her most cherished moments was meeting George Jones after finding out he loved one of her songs, “Water Under The Bridge,” and they promised each other a duet but the legendary singer passed away before they could make it happen.

The album title Hummingbird Tea came about when her mother was facing a life-threatening medical issue. The at-home nurse would talk about drinking her sweet Hummingbird Tea (aka Southern Iced Tea). It was something that Sera embraced as she wrote the songs on the album. As she thought of the correlation between the tea, her Mom, the album, and her own well-being, Sera began to see a glimmer of hope that they all could be revived after their journey, trials, blows, and setbacks and feel hopeful again through her songwriting. “Bayou Baby” gives us a small glimpse of that revival and it’s a mighty one. Hummingbird Tea has been in the works for a couple of years with writing and recording, and it’s well worth the wait. The album consists of 14 original songs ranging from firey grooves to moving, soulful ballads. The backing band consists of Serabee on piano and guitar, Casandra Faulconer on electric bass, Eric Bolivar on drums, Dave Easley on pedal steel guitar, 12-string dobro, electric guitar, Shane Theriot on guitars, John Autin on piano, Nick Necaise on B-3 organ, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and Charles (C.C.) Carter on backing vocals, flute, saxophone.
