Buddy Guy Announces New Album ‘The Blues Don’t Lie’
Feat. Guests Mavis Stables, Bobby Rush, Elvis Costello, James Taylor, Jason Isbell & more
Out September 30th
Shares New Single With Jason Isbell
Blues legend Buddy Guy announces his new album The Blues Don’t Lie via RCA to release September 30th, a follow-up to his Grammy winning album The Blues Is Alive And Well (2018). Produced by longtime collaborator and Grammy winner Tom Hambridge, The Blues Don’t Lie features Mavis Staples, Elvis Costello, James Taylor, Jason Isbell and more.
The eight-time Grammy winner’s new single “Gunsmoke Blues” with Jason Isbell is a haunting tale about gun violence, with Guy and multi Grammy winner Isbell trading vocal and guitar riffs. It’s an evocative song with searing, soulful guitar licks. “A million thoughts and prayers won’t bring back anyone,” Guy and Isbell both sing.

His 34th album, The Blues Don’t Lie’s release date of September 30th marks the 65th anniversary of Buddy Guy’s arrival to Chicago from Louisiana, before he became one of Chicago’s blues greats. The album tells the story of his life journey. Buddy says, “I promised them all—B.B., Muddy, Sonny Boy—as long as I’m alive I’m going to keep the blues alive.” The Louisiana native followed his dreams and moved to Chicago. There, he began working as the house guitarist at Chess Records and formed musical alliances with Muddy Waters and Junior Wells and went on to influence generations of legendary guitarists.

No doubt what so ever. The mans’ still got it! Terrific new release from Buddy Guy!
Interesting album and Buddy will always be one of the greats but lost me at James Taylor. I go to the blues to get away from political nonsense.
