Last night, Dave Stewart was officially inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame — alongside his Eurythmics co-founder, Annie Lennox — during the 51st Annual Ceremony and Awards Gala in New York City.

St. Vincent honored the award-winning, multi-platinum British duo with a blistering cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” prior to introducing and welcoming Stewart and Lennox to the podium, followed by the duo’s performance of “Here Comes the Rain Again.”

Stewart reflects on the evening saying, “Annie and I were honored and very happy to be inducted by the wonderfully talented St. Vincent into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Our journey together has been like none other, yet we both know the joy and heartache each artist goes through to get to this point. We feel humbly rewarded that so many people love and appreciate our songs, making us part of a giant tapestry of poets and songwriters that hopefully bring some light into people’s lives.”

Dave Stewart is recognized as one of the most respected and accomplished talents in the music industry today with a music career spanning four decades and over 100 million album sales. Stewart Produced every Eurythmics album which he co-wrote with Annie Lennox. He has also co-written and produced albums and songs with Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Mick Jagger, Bryan Ferry, Daryl Hall, Katy Perry, Sinead O’Connor, Gwen Stefani, Jon Bon Jovi, Joss Stone and many others. Along the way, his work has garnered numerous awards including 26 ASCAP Awards and BMI awards for most performed songs, 4 Ivor Novello Awards, 4 Brit Awards for Best Producer, a Lifetime Achievement Award, The Silver Clef Award, the Clive Davis Legend in Songwriting Award, and a GRAMMY Award. In 2015, Stewart also won the Outstanding Contribution to UK Music Award given by the Producers Guild. He has scored films for several directors including Robert Altman, Paul Verhoeven and Ted Demme.

Stewart has written and produced the title songs for many hit movies and together with Mick Jagger wrote and produced the score for Alfie, which won the pair a Golden Globe for Best Original Song. Stewart along with Glen Ballard wrote the music for the hit musical Ghost. In 2001, Stewart was approached by Nelson Mandela to help fight against the Aids epidemic. Stewart then developed a hugely successful Global Campaign using Mandela’s prison number 46664. He has written the music for the musical The Time Traveler’s Wife being launched September 2022 and has written an autobiographical triple album titled Ebony McQueen, released May 2022, with a film and musical in the works.

80’s British pop duo, Eurythmics namely, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, achieved global success with their album Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) for which the title track became a worldwide hit topping the charts in numerous countries including the U.S.. Eurythmics quickly became arena headliners on nearly every continent, widely recognized as one of the most innovative groups in the history of popular music — pioneering a unique blend of soul, electronic, pop and rock. Songs such as “Would I Lie To You,” “Missionary Man” and “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves” inspired an entire generation of the world’s most successful artists who directly cite Eurythmics as major influences.

They are now members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
