Give Us Your Favorite Live Albums! Readers’ Poll
It’s summer and live music is what it’s all about.
Few experiences are as satisfying as watching and listening to your favorite musicians get down on it on a perfect summer day surrounded by a mass of other fans doing the exact same thing.
Live shows are the communal events that bring people together and create that tribal vibe we all love. There are precious few ways to get that feeling without being there.
That’s where live albums come in.
There’s something special about live albums, as the best of them capture the essence of a band’s energy and the electricity of the crowd, making you feel as if you were there. Some live albums are monumental, while others simmer with magic you hadn’t heard on the band’s studio releases. Recording a concert performance often captures a certain excitement or an unexpected element of a band’s sound you hadn’t heard before.
We’d like to hear from you, our readers, about your favorite live albums and songs from those albums so we can create a playlist for your summer enjoyment.
This is going to be great because our subscribers and followers are some of the most discerning music fans we know. We can’t wait to discover which albums get your motor running.
Let’s have at it. Give us the titles of one or two of your favorite live albums (blues, rock, roots music from any time period) and one or two songs you absolutely love from them. We’ll do the rest and publish the playlist next week.
Please use the comment section below so we can keep track. We can’t possibly gather this info from all of our social media platforms. Together, we’ll create the mightiest live rock, blues and roots music playlist the world has ever seen, and we can jam to it all summer long.
Place your comments below in this order: Band/artist name, album title, song title in Comments Section only below. Share this with your friends.
Thank you.

Great idea! It’s an oldie (1977), but I think Genesis’ “Seconds Out” is one of the greatest live albums of all time. I’ll put it up against any other live album since! The band’s musicianship is at its absolute musical peak, and with the addition of Steve Hackett and a top-notch production team, sonically exquisite! Phil Collins brings some of the old Peter Gabriel drab and monotone numbers ALIVE with energy and fun! Play the whole 2 discs (or LP’s!), but if you need a taste of what this live album brings to your ears, try these cuts:
“Firth Of Fifth”, and “Supper’s Ready”.
The Allman Brothers Band, ‘At Fillmore East’
Grateful Dead, ‘Europe ’72’
Little Feat, ‘Waiting for Columbus’
B.B. King, ‘Live at the Regal’
Wishbone Ash ‘Live Dates’
Pat Travers Live “Boom Boom, Out go the Lights” from the album Go for what you know.
Jimi Hendrix ‘Band of Gypsys’, Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East, Grand Funk Live, Little Feat ‘Waiting for Columbus”, Albert Castiglia ‘Wild and Free’, Humble Pie ‘Rockin’ the Fillmore’, North MIssissippi Allstars ‘Do it Like We Used to Do’
Doobie Brothers 1982 tour, more specifically the live recording and video of their performance in Santa Barbara that year. The songs flow into each other and the recordings are immaculate (I believe they recorded some post as well).
Definitely recommend this live recording it’s available on youtube:
