Mick Jagger has co-written, recorded and performed the theme tune for the highly anticipated Apple Original series, Slow Horses, with Academy Award-nominated film composer Daniel Pemberton. The brand new track, “Strange Game” was released today to coincide with the series premiere of Slow Horses, which premiered globally on Apple TV+ with the first two episodes today.

Capturing the atmosphere of the original Mick Herron novels, Mick Jagger sings “It’s a strange, strange game,” creating a musically haunting vibe. “Strange Game” is an attention-grabbing blast of gritty musical noir that transports listeners into a dirty world of risk and reward. Jagger delivers an expressive, character-filled vocal performance over the song’s Waitsian arrangement that’s equal parts old-school sophistication and Rain Dogs junkyard noise. It’s a brilliant sound that draws a different kind of feel out of Mick and shows that he still has new levels to explore even after all these years in the spotlight. It’s a dramatic song that will haunt the corners of your mind for a long time.

Slow Horses is a darkly humorous spy series that debuts on Apple TV+ starring Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman. The show is an adaptation of the CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning Mick Herron’s first novel about a dysfunctional team of MI5 agents and their obnoxious leader, the brilliant but irascible Jackson Lamb, as they navigate the espionage world’s smoke and mirrors to defend England from sinister forces. Due to their career-ending mistakes, they frequently find themselves blundering in the espionage world. The first two episodes are streaming now. New episodes will premiere each Friday.

Gary Oldman is the protagonist Jackson Lamb who serves as the leader of a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known as Slough House. He has affection for his team, even if they do not inspire confidence. The plot follows the team as they become embroiled in a hostage case. Can the spies prove they are actually capable?

The show also stars Kristen Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Jack Lowden, Olivia Cooke and more. The first season of Slow Horses comprises six episodes. The second season of at least six more episodes is currently in development.
