We are pleased to premiere Dana Fuchs’ new single “Hard Road” from her upcoming album Borrowed Time set to release April 29, 2022 on Ruf Records and produced by Bobby Harlow.

“Hard Road” is a soul-shaking Southern rock track that gives us an idea of what might have happened if Janis Joplin and The Black Crowes had ever crossed paths. Fuchs’ vocals are tough, tuneful, and confident, allowing her to cut through the band and tell her story the way she sees it. The guitars here sound amazing, especially the slide work. The instrumental parts support Fuchs perfectly, putting down a groove that will move crowds and convert new fans. This is rock and roll as it’s meant to be played. You’ll understand the moment you hear it.

Dana Fuchs says, “In a world where everything seems increasingly divided, the “Hard Road” is one we must take to face the idea of loving ourselves enough so that we can heal the split with others.”

With both feet planted on both sides of blues rock, Dana Fuchs is one of the fiercest voices in modern-day roots music. Equal parts soul singer and blues belter, Fuchs channels her own story, a tale of small town roots, family tragedy, trials and triumph, into amplified anthems and haunting ballads that fill her previous albums Bliss Avenue and Love Lives On. With her newest project, Borrowed Time, she digs deep into her Southern rock upbringing, saluting the loud-guitar-driven sounds that tracked her childhood years in rural Wildwood, FL.

Wildwood was a small place for someone with big ideas. Raised by an outspoken family of Irish-Catholic New Yorkers, Fuchs didn’t fit in with the conservative culture of her hometown, and she developed a rebellious reputation at a young age. Knowing that Fuchs loved music, her first grade teacher took Fuchs under her wing and took her to the Baptist church where she was exposed to a lot of soul.

Fuchs’ last album Love Lives On is a groove-driven soul record with personal lyrics about her family’s struggle with addiction and mental illness. Borrowed Time explores themes of universal stories, with her songwriting lens pointed outward. Dana pays proper tribute to the rock & roll South with her upcoming album.

Along with bandmates like bassist Jack Daley and guitarist Jon Diamond, the latter of whom had taken Fuchs under his wing during her early days in New York City, guided her early exploration of blues music, and co-produced her first four albums, Fuchs headed to snowy Michigan. There, joined by guitarist and recording engineer Kenny Tudrick (The Detroit Cobras), drummer Todd Glass and keyboardist Jordan Champion, the group recorded Borrowed Time in eight inspired days. “We tracked everything live, and it was our first time recording an album with another guitar player,” Fuchs explains. “We were going for that rootsy, Stonesy rock & roll sound.”

Dana Fuchs won the lead in the hit musical Love, Janis, followed by the role of 2007’s Golden Globe-nominated movie, Across The Universe.
