Powerhouse soul and blues vocalist, songwriter Gina Sicilia releases a new single “Last Bad Habit” written and produced by Amy Speace and Scott Williams, recorded by Tommy Wiggins in Nashville, TN. The song showcases Sicilia’s gorgeous vocals and soulful take on this ballad with flavors of blues and R&B. A song of regret, Sicilia sings “Down to my last bad habit and it’s you.”
The Pennsylvania native now based in Nashville, Sicilia’s new single is soon to be followed by a new studio album early next year produced by Grammy Award-winner Colin Linden and released by VizzTone Label Group. This marks Gina’s return to VizzTone and was one of the label’s first artists in 2007.
About the song, Gina says, “It has the kind of rawness that allows me to really dig into each lyric and phrase. It’s a song about being on a journey of self-growth and coming to terms with everything that’s toxic for you, even if it pains you to face the truth. To me the song is as much about liberation as it is about heartbreak. The writers did a beautiful job of expressing this bittersweet sentiment, and the way the music builds in intensity through the end of the song is an impassioned way of telling this story about letting go.”

With nine albums to her name, Sicilia’s last album, Love Me Madly (2020) was released on Blue Elan Records to critical acclaim and produced by Cody Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars). Nominated for a Blues Music Award for ‘Best New Artist,’ Gina Sicilia has opened for Beth Hart, Joan Osborne, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Joe Bonamassa, Shemekia Copeland and Johnny Winter.
Songwriting and singing are second nature to Sicilia. She was singing and performing at local talent shows when she was 6, and started writing songs when she was 12. “I got into blues and soul when I was a young teenager,” she says, “and by the time I was 18 or 19, I was singing in a blues band. In my early years in college, you could find me at the weekly blues jams at Warmdaddy’s in Philadelphia.”
Love Me Madly arrived on the heels of 2018’s Heard the Lie, which debuted on the Billboard blues charts at #10. That album showcased Sicilia’s songwriting chops and her ability to find the grooves in all styles of roots music. It featured gospel-inflected tunes, old school R&B, and steel guitar-drenched Americana. Rev. Charles Hodges (Al Green, Boz Scaggs, Tom Jones among others) played organ on the album, and horns, strings and trumpet were arranged by Marc Franklin (Aretha Franklin, BB King, Solomon Burke, Cyndi Lauper, the Gregg Allman Band) and tracked at Royal Studios in Memphis, owned by the legendary Lawrence “Boo” Mitchell, who has worked with Al Green, Soloman Burke, Lamont Dozier, Rod Stewart, among many other greats.
