Swiss-based four-piece contemporary blues band, Ellis Mano Band release their third single “Ambedo Mind” from their sophomore album, Ambedo released June 25th via Jazzhaus Records.
“Smooth, sexy and horn-section-soulful, this song is a nod to the soul and R&B greats,” says Edis Mano, guitarist for Ellis Mano Band.
The track’s brilliant late-night funkiness vibes on everything from Motown to Steely Dan beneath singer Chris Ellis’ gripping falsetto vocals and warm presence. Mano’s guitar work is clean and crisp and he keeps it all deep in the pocket.
With superb production, “Ambedo Mind” is a song about love with wonderful groove, performed by a band whose wealth of musical experience serves them well. Smooth and soulful, Ellis’ vocals give this an uplifting tone, along with the perfectly placed punch of horns. Outstanding track!
Mano also produced the music video for “Ambedo Mind” himself after studying filmmaking during his pandemic downtime. The clip is an entrancing addition to the song and is rendered in a hypnotic style that accentuates both the band and the cut. “Ambedo Mind” is smooth and beautiful all around and is another fine showing from this superb crew.
The cinematic effects are beautifully done; the views of guitar, bass, drumsticks and other instruments are quite breathtaking. Mano has developed quite a talent for cinematography.

In Switzerland, the Ellis Mano Band are not unlike the Wrecking Crew or the Funk Brothers. They are top-flight studio musicians and the elite in the Swiss music scene. For their album Ambedo, each track is saturated with a deep respect and understanding of American roots music, from the early blues of the American South through to the blues and rock revolution of 1960s Britain.
Ellis Mano Band is Chris Ellis (vocals), Edis Mano (guitars), Severin Graf (bass), Nico Looser (drums) Manuel Halter (keys), Leslie Bogart and Cathryn Lehmann (backing vocals), Florian Egli (sax), David Blaser (trumpet), Lukas Wyss (Trombone).
According to The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, the word Ambedo is a melancholic trance in which you become completely absorbed in vivid sensory detail—raindrops skittering down a window, tall trees leaning in the wind, clouds of cream swirling in your coffee.
The album, Ambedo was recorded with vintage gear and produced with a contemporary sound. All songs were recorded live with minimal overdubs, including backing vocals and horns.
Influenced by Led Zeppelin, J.J. Cale, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer, the Ellis Mano Band has put their own unique stamp on the blues, which has now become a shared global phenomenon.
