By Martine Ehrenclou & Mike O’Cull
As we break out into summer and break free of many of the pandemic restrictions, we wanted to highlight 20 young artists (under 40) who are making an impact on blues and blues/rock music. Each of the 20 is an outstanding guitarist or multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. Even though a few have been professional for a number of years, starting their careers in their teens, we have included them because it was too difficult not too.
Purposely, we did not include artists such as Joe Bonamassa, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Eric Gales, Joanna Connor, Josh Smith, Kirk Fletcher, and more, because they are already well-known and are part of spearheading these genres. It’s important to us to feature younger artists who will create the next generation of the music we love because we believe in paying it forward. Today’s upstarts could well be the top performers of tomorrow and we bring them and you, our amazing readers.
It will always be important to support and bring out new music. This is a continually evolving art form, after all, and the next record you buy could well be the best record you’ve ever heard. These 20 artists aren’t the only ones moving and shaking right now but they’re the younger ones we’re feeling today. If you love great blues and blues/rock, we know you’re going to feel them, too.
We welcome your comments in the comment section below.

Great list! The blues are in very good hands!!
Great List ! but where is Ryan McGarvey :)
Jack Broadbent should really be apart of this conversation.
I found this artist Jax Hollow on Joe Bonamassa’s Epic Guitar Solo Spotify playlist. If it is good with Joe, it is good with me. I love her stuff. You should check her out…. https://youtu.be/tE3PKCLoyKQ
Chris, https://www.rockandbluesmuse.com/2021/03/11/review-underdog-anthems-by-jax-hollow/
Thanks for bringing up the highly talented Jax Hollow. We’ve featured her several times
I was very glad to see that you had Danielle Nicole on your list. Danielle has an amazing voice perfectly suited to blues music.
I’ve also had the opportunity to enjoy the sound of Quinn Sullivan performing with Buddy Guy.
I look forward to hearing music from the others on your list.
One more performer I would suggest that you look into is Lyle Odjick & The Northern Steam from Ottawa Canada.
Artur Menezes is a force of nature! The boy is pure feeling!
You should listen to 24 yr old Beano of beano mojohand. Bill Medly of the hall of fame ‘ righteous brothers ‘ says ,’ where did this kid come from?’
I agree with your list, however, I believe Selwyn Birchwood should be on this list!!
Well I cant disagree with that list ‘ although there is a few I haven’t heard , yet .
One glaring omission though is WHEN RIVERS MEET , also a multi award winning group with a critically acclaimed debut album and 2 eps to boot , 2nd album due out in November, the best new group of the moment, so next list hopefully.
Tony,
When Rivers Meet is awesome. We have featured them so much that we decided to showcase a few others. Go to the search box and type in their name. You’ll see.
I heard Vanessa Collier was going to be there?
Vanessa Collier should be there.
Thanks for helping me discover “new artists” once more !
Saw JJN and Tyler Bryant open for Zakk Wylde; they restored my faith in music
I’ve been following Eric Steckel for greater than 10 years. I’ve discovered that he is well known in Europe and falls through the cracks here in USA.
Great list but surprised no Dom Martin on there!
Slightly off topic BUT for some jazz enthusiasts:
