The 63rd Grammy Awards are rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a joint statement from Harvey Mason Jr, Chair & Interim President/CEO of the Recording Academy and Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, specials, Music, Live Events and Alternative Programming, CBS, and Ben Winston Grammy Awards Executive Producer.
“After thoughtful conversations with health experts, our host and artists scheduled to appear, we are rescheduling the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards® to be broadcast Sunday, March 14, 2021. The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.
We want to thank all of the talented artists, the staff, our vendors and especially this year’s nominees for their understanding, patience and willingness to work with us as we navigate these unprecedented times.” The statement was signed by Harvey Mason Jr, Jack Sussman and Ben Winston.
The Grammy Awards ceremony will now take place on March 14, 2021 at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, and was set to take place January 31st, 2021 and hosted by Trevor Noah (The Daily Show).

According to the Los Angeles Times, one in every five people getting tested for the coronavirus are positive, five times the number since November 1, 2019. “Everyone should keep in mind that community transmission rates are so high that you run the risk of an exposure whenever you leave your home,” Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said. “Assume that this deadly invisible virus is everywhere, looking for a willing host.”
Los Angeles and the rest of Southern California are under a stay-at-home order. An anticipated surge of the virus, hospitalizations and deaths from the winter holiday gatherings and traveling, is anticipated.
