The Immediate Family Releases New Music Video “New York Minute” from the band’s EP, Slippin’ and Slidin’ and is a modern take on the Don Henley hit, which band member Danny Kortchmar co-wrote during sessions for Henley’s The End of the Innocence album.
LOS ANGELES, CA, December 3, 2020 — Quarto Valley Records (QVR) announces the release of the new music video for “New York Minute” from recording artist The Immediate Family, a rock & roll band composed of longtime friends and legendary musicians – Danny Kortchmar (guitar and vocals), Waddy Wachtel (guitar and vocals), Leland Sklar (bass), Russ Kunkel (drums) and Steve Postell (guitar and vocals). The video is premiering today via M Music & Musicians Magazine. The video was edited by and conceived with the help of Michael Perlmutter of Almost Midnight Productions.
“New York Minute,” featuring Steve Postell on lead vocals, is a song that will be familiar to many listeners, as it is a modern take on the 1990 Don Henley hit, which The Immediate Family’s Danny Kortchmar co-wrote with Henley and Jai Winding for inclusion on Henley’s The End of the Innocence album. The music video was filmed and produced with the band members in separate locations and also uses footage from a recent live-streamed performance by the band.

Kortchmar remarks, “When we set out to write this song years ago, Don Henley wanted a song that captured New York in the fall. I came up with the changes for the verse and chorus on keyboard, then we brought Jai Winding in to help with the bridge, and Don wrote the great lyric. The Immediate Family’s version is very different, since we translated it into a guitar treatment and made it into a rock & roll ballad. We recorded this version playing our parts individually due to the virus preventing us getting together, with Steve doing the lead vocal and Russ playing his ‘box kit.’ We’ve been playing together so long that we’re able to be tight even if we’re not in the same room! Hope you dig it as much as we dug making it!”
Postell adds, “Being in this band offers MANY highlights for me, but none greater than the opportunity to sing this phenomenal song, co-written by Don Henley and our own Danny ‘Kootch’ Kortchmar. Long before I met Danny and the rest of our gang, I was not just a fan of ‘New York Minute’ but saw it as a near-perfect example of the potential scope of popular music, with a brilliant vocal, stunning melody, powerful expressive production, gorgeous chord changes, and a poignant, evocative lyric. I was born at New York Hospital on East 66th Street in Manhattan and spent many of my formative years living in the City. Danny told me they were trying to paint a tonal and lyrical picture of what New York City really feels like, and in every way, I believe they succeeded. Every time I sing this song I am transported back to my hometown, and getting to personalize the experience over the driving, rocking interpretation from our band is every singer’s dream. We asked our talented video director, Michael Perlmutter, to paint the song against the backdrop of NYC, and he did a stellar job. Enjoy the video, and this amazing song, performed The Immediate Family way.”
Michael Perlmutter of Almost Midnight Productions has been producing, directing and editing content for the music industry for over 20 years. He notes, “Working with The Immediate Family has been such a joy on multiple levels. One, they are all legends: as studio musicians and collaborators with multi-platinum artists going back decades, these guys made the music that fed my soul growing up in New Jersey, so to be able to work with them as an adult, it doesn’t get much cooler than that. And two, the challenges of creating a compelling socially distanced music video at this moment really energized and excited me. For ‘New York Minute,’ the guys all shot their own parts at their respective homes, using their phones. They sent me the footage and told me to have fun! I’ve always loved projected images on city buildings so I wanted to try to do something similar for this video by incorporating the band and NYC in a creative way that would allow us to showcase this iconic song.”
Merlin David, Publisher of M Music & Musicians magazine, remarks, “The Immediate Family is a super group of seasoned professional musicians who write songs that continue to move us, play instruments at the highest level, and remind us that good music remains an integral part of our lives.”
