We are excited to premiere the video “Liars” by Deltaphonic from their upcoming album, The Funk, the Soul & the Holy Groove, out April 10th. A blend of New Orleans funk, soul and hill country blues-influenced rock n’ roll, the band has a delicious, gritty sound that exists in a realm all its own.
Inspired by the band’s initial reluctance to embrace the status quo in the music business, the highly satirical single “Liars” employs witty metaphors to question the artistic integrity of the business, even paraphrasing a Hunter S. Thompson quote on the subject, “It’s a cruel and shallow money trench where theives and pimps run free.” These lyrics, contrasted with New Orleans style p-funk and gospel inspired backing vocals, create a vibe that is both righteously funky and mischievously dark.
Deltaphonic’s third album, The Funk, the Soul, & the Holy Groove features 10 original songs that tell stories of struggle and redemption in the voice of someone who has learned hard lessons and survived to laugh about it. They are the kind of band that lives the songs they sing, overcomes challenges and progresses down their own road.
With songwriter Andrew T. Weekes, Deltaphonic showcases their new lineup as a versatile trio with a heavy groove. In addition to core members Andrew T. Weekes on guitar and vocals, Paul Provosty (formerly of Earphunk) on lead guitar, and alternating drummers Trenton O’Neal and Ciaran Brennan, the band’s new album features some of the most notable acts in the New Orleans scene including backing singer Josh Kagler (The Revivalists), bassist Jerry “Jblakk”Henderson (Big Sam’s Funky Nation), and keys player Andriu Yanovski (Boogie Trio, Cha Wa).
Deltaphonic is a band to put on your radar. Expect big things from this innovative, cutting edge and fun band. With tremendous groove, they are one funk, blues, rock n’ roll band that will have you moving and thinking at the same time. Look for their upcoming album The Funk, the Soul & The Holy Groove.
