Samantha Fish will be releasing her second album this year, Belle Of The West, November 3, 2017, on Ruf Records. Like her breakout album in 2015, Wild Heart, it is produced by Luther Dickinson. The album was recorded at Zebra Ranch Studios in the North Hills of Mississippi.
Belle Of The West comes on the heels of her acclaimed, Chills & Fever release, which ranked in the top 10 on the Billboard Blues charts. It digs deep into the roots over Mississippi’s North Hills and through the crossroads of Americana’s rural country blues.
About her upcoming album, Fish said, “It’s a storytelling record by a girl who grew up in the Midwest. It’s a personal album. I really focused on the songwriting and the vocals and the melodies and the emotion and on bringing another dimension to what I do.”
The New York Times called Fish, “an impressive blues guitarist who sings with sweet power” and “one of the genre’s most promising young talents.”
Her fifth studio album, Belle Of The West, has 11 tracks and showcases Fish’s acoustic guitar skills as well as her emotional, rootsy songwriting. Fish also said, “I love the Mississippi style of blues; there’s something very soulful about that style of music, so this was a chance to immerse myself in that.”
Fish described her upcoming album as “semi-acoustic songwriter, Americana.”
Although she’d firmly established herself in the blues world, Samantha pursued a new direction with 2017’s Chills & Fever. For that project, she traveled to Detroit to record a soulful set of vintage R&B covers in a raw garage-soul style. Although a substantial departure from Fish’s prior releases, Chills & Fever was well received by fans and critics alike, winning Fish new fans outside of the blues world.
Fish also said, “Having these two very different records come out back to back this year has been really liberating,” she concludes. “Even if I go in a completely different direction on the next one, I feel like as long as I’m convinced, the music will convince other people.”
Samantha Fish is currently on tour. You can find tour information on her website, here.
Rock and Blues Muse will be reviewing Belle Of The West and it will be published mid to late October.
