Multi Blues Music Award-Winner Vanessa Collier Drops “Take Me Back”

Saxophonist, Vocalist, Songwriter Vanessa Collier releases her new single “Take Me Back” from her upcoming album Do it My Own Way set to release September 13, 2024 via Phoenix Fire Records. Collier is a 12-time Blues Music Award Nominee and three-time winner, including for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year. She Her prior studio album, Heart On The Line, spent nine weeks in the Billboard Blues Album Chart top 15 and the songwriter/bandleader made her Chicago Blues Festival debut this year, in front of tens of thousands.

Buddy Guy said, “There’s a young lady [Vanessa Collier, that] came on stage with me… she’s playing an alto saxophone, and man, she was amazing.” She made her Chicago blues fest debut this year. She’s also been name-checked in a Rolling Stone piece on black artists reclaiming blues music.

Blending blues, funk and soul into her music, Vanessa Collier is a multi-talented artist on the rise. Just listen to her voice on her new single “Take Me Back”, and her sax skills, which are soulful and fluid, with the guitar effects creating a moody, noir vibe. Collier is someone to watch–it won’t be long before she is world renowned. Having toured internationally, Collier has released four critically acclaimed albums with her fifth coming in September.

‘Take me Back”

Born in Texas and now living in South Carolina, the first thing she heard was country music. Graduating from Berklee College of Music, she’s also been influenced by Bonnie Raitt and the Wood Brothers.

Having first picked up the saxophone at the age of nine, Collier embarked on her road to recognition at Berklee, earning dual degrees in Performance and Music Production & Engineering.
